20 or 12 gauge?
In a contest I won a browning citori white lightening(o/u) in my chose of gauge. I'm not sure if I should get the 12 or 20 gauge. The 12ga.(8lbs 2oz) is almost 2lbs heavier than the 20ga.(6lbs 9oz). It will be used for shooting clay pigeons and small game. Should I go with the 12ga. for more versatility, or should I go with the lighter 20ga.?

Get the 20. Will do anything a 12 will do and worth more when you are ready to sell. 0 -
+1 for the 20 gauge. I have a number of both, primarily used for sporting clays and some hunting. The 12s mostly reside in the gun safe while the 20s get used. Congratulations on winning it. Can't really go wrong with either gauge though. 0 -
Personally, I'd take the 12.
More versatile; shells are more readily available, cheaper, and in a greater variety.
But you can't really go wrong with either. Its just a question of personal preference and what exactly you want do do with them.0 -
i think you get more options with the 12, you can shoot super light loads or magnum loads, what would you sooner use for turkey, how about slugs, the 12ga is the most versitle gun on the market. if i could only have 1 long gun it would be a 12ga pump, with that you can go after anything from rabbits to bear depending on the shells your using 0 -
take the 12 it will hold a better resale later almost all that shoot clays for compitition will want a 12 ,and if you do shoot clays you can load up shells to you satisfaction! 0 -
I would get the 12. Unless you already have a 12 then get the 20. 0 -
I once saw a guy bring one of those light handy 20 ga Citoris to the trap club for the first time. No recoil pad, who needs 'em for a little ol' 20, right? His shirt was bloody by the time he had shot a hundred targets and he was out of action until his shoulder healed. Then he came back with a 12 ga with a recoil pad and some weight to it.
If you are going to shoot regulation Trap or Sporting Clays, get the 12. The 20 will break any Skeet target, but its light weight might get uncomfortable if you shoot a lot.0 -
I could not say it better then the other 12ga, guys. If I was only going to use it for upland birds I would be tempted to take the 20 ga since all I persoanlly have is 20 ga. Sometimes a 12 ga gun gets heavy walking all day through the fields. But overall you cannot beat the versatility of the 12 ga. 0 -
if majority of use is clays, then the 12 with a pad, if hunting then the 20 0 -
If you are going to hunt with it a 20 is the way to go. Two lbs doesn't sound like alot of weight until you carry it all day. Most of the guys I hunt with use 12s and they never get any more birds than I do. If you look at the auction side you will see 20s sell faster and at higher prices than 12s. 0
