Magsafe Ammo
Someone gave me some 44 mag ammunition.
Some have yellow tips and are in a package that says 'varmint'. The others are loose with red tips. The loose ammo is very light.
What are their purposes?

This is very high velocity personal defense ammo. The projectile consists of a specially formed bullet jacket containing small diameter bird shot, of the type normally loaded in shotgun shells.
In theory the projectile will rupture on impact with flesh and cause a very large diameter wound that will imitately incapacitate the person hit by the Magsafe bullet. In real life it hasn't proved total satisfactorily since the bullet blows up on contact, it is lacking in penetration.
After Joe Zambone the original designer/owner of Magsafe bullets sold the business, succeeding owners designed various other high velocity projectiles. Some didn't contain lead bird shot. Only a heavy copper ally bullet jacket, with a plastic bullet shaped insert.0 -
Is there difference between the red tip and yellow tip? 0
