I believe, that "Essex" was one of the Trade Names used on Harrington & Richardson Handy Guns. If this is correct? unless it has been registered with the feds before or during the 1968 amnesty it would be illegal to own or be in possession of. Unfortunately there is no way to retroactively register these guns at this late date, i.e. if you don't have the required legal paperwork your SOL.
On the other hand if you do have the required paperwork It is a big buck collectors item as long as it's factory original, Very Good condition or better.0 -
Not sure, but I think the Essex was made by Crescent Firearms. 0 -
"Essex" was a trade name used on single and double barrel shotguns by "Belknap Hardware of Louisville Ky.". most of them were of manufactured by cresent. Belknap did purchase some of the "H&R handi-guns" and they were marked with the Essex name. how may were purchased is unknown only a few have been observed.
cresent i believe did make this type of shotgun pistol but under other names. there may well be some cresent 410 pistols with the name Essex on them out there.
with this type of pistol been on the restricted list there may never be enough of them available to study to be able to tell if any one else made one.
