336 Marlin help

A Friend down New Mexico way, just got a new Marlin in 35 Rem and has sent me a email detailing his problem and searching for help/answers.

As he explains it, he is able to cycle a round into the chamber, bolt goes fully closed, But the lever does not easily come to the fully close position.

Does the lever have any adjustment that can be made by a gunsmith or does this sound like something needing a trip back to Marlin, this was a new purchase.

    That is exactly what I wrote back to him, but told him I would toss it out here for possible other ideas, just in case it was a simple adjustment.

    factory ammo, or reloads? if reloads he may have only neck sized,and this can cause a Marlin to hang up on closeing.

    Has he fired this rifle? If not, have him scrub the bore and chamber. It might appear that the bolt is closing, but it is not. Does the lever close on an empty chamber? Lot of questions to answer, but if a thurough bore/chamber scrubbing does not solve the problem, then off to Marlin it should go.

    We have the same problem with one when it is empty. The lever wont close all the way...

    +1 for back to marlin it goes. the problem could be non factory reloads. +1 on the hornady lever revolution rounds. those things will take down an elk with one shot. best
