unusual 45 ACP casing

While loading up a bunch I came across 2 Federal brand cases among the ones my friend purchased at a flea market that are marked Federal NT 45 auto. They have what appears to be a small sized crimped in primer. There's a couple military cases in there without crimped primers and they have the standard large pistol size.What do I have?

  NT stands for Non Toxic, the primers contain no lead; probably the bullets didn't either. For various technical reasons they use small primers crimped in for the "unleaded" Dinol priming compound. If you only have two, trash them. If you have a lot, the crimps can be removed and the cases reloaded with standard small primers. (Although the makers say not to.)

  Federal also used that marking on their .40 S&W cases
  that were loaded "non toxic". I have
  a couple hundred of the darn things.[|)]
