How are the new generation Weaver scopes? Advantages and disadvantages Is the glass any good ? Where are they made ?

    When did Weaver make the transition of a steel tube to an aluminum tube for their scopes? There seem to be a lot of steel tubes still around.

    Welcome to the forum. You have probably come the right place, although I can not answer all of your questions. According to Old Rifle Scopes by Nick Stroebel, p. 273, the model C4 was produced, from 1966 to 1970. All weaver scopes at that time had a steel tube. He gives the value at $20 - $40. It was inteded for use on rimfire rifles. It has a 0.75" tube. It has probably been on that rifle for many years and I assume it works well. Better scopes are available today. It is your call if you want to replace it.

    Scopes intended for rimfire rifles are usually parallax free to 50 yards, but with a 336 in .30-30 and Leverevolution bullets you can easily shoot to 200 years or more. I would replace the scope with a modern 4x.
