yugo sks sling - how to attach?

Ok, so how does the sling that comes iwth the kit a Yugo SKS comes with attach?

I got the front no problem - just slips on. But the other end of the sling has the metal plate thing on it that is about 1/8" too big to fit thru the sling point on the back end....

???

  A web search shows that there are 2 different sling sizes for those guns. Apparently the older guns use a 1" leather sling vs the new wider "nylon" one.

  Oh well... so much for having an easy carry at the show tomorrow...
  
  Gonna sell her and get a second Savage bolt gun, 22lr this time so I'll have a matched set
