The Winchester Book 1 of 1000 by george madis has alot of information and pictures of high grade guns in all the models starting with volcanic arms. Its a large book at over 600 pages. Many will tell you some of his figures are innacurate but it if you are just learning you wont need to be bothered with the figures.

For engraving the best book is The Book of Winchester Engraving by R.L.Wilson. While the author as a person leaves much to be desired, this book is very accurate as far as factory engraving. It is pricey but it is worth the money as it contains all the different models and time periods. Also includes quite a bit of checkering.
