    For what its worth, the Ruger model 77 is basically a modernized Mauser action built on a cast receiver.

    I think the Zastava Mausers are machined, and I'm pretty sure the current incarnation of the original German Mauser is still using machined receivers.

    For what its worth, Yeovil is an English company that's been in the casting business since the '60s. They make medical and aerospace parts, so I'd think they'd be able to handle a Mauser action.

    The story certainly seems plausible, and I have no reason to doubt it.

    That said, if you consider the ready availability of entire surplus Mauser rifles with machined receivers in good-or-better condition for under $200, I just can't imagine that its worth the effort to try and finish up a cast receiver like this, unless you're just doing it as a teaching/learning exercise.

    Certainly looks like a casting to me, and, like the Baked Bean says, no reason to doubt the story. $25 with no reserve would make it an interesting paper weight, but IMHO it sure wouldn't make sense to buy it in the hopes of incorporating it into a shooting project.

    Looks like a precision investment casting that needs a whole lot of machining to finish it up and a bunch of small parts plus a bolt.
    Following rough machining it will have to be heat treated.
    This is an expensive project and will still end up a cast receiver.
    It's a bad idea.

    I've bought from the o.w.s. before and he is OK, This is Val Forgertt(sp?), his father statred Navy Arms and he is selling off parts/pieces from that operation. The built sporting rifles on these actions, they even made up some m-98 mausers that took springfield m-1903 bolts (back in the day you could buy 1903 parts by the pound).
