Type and Origin of Gun

Good day Experts,

Please kindly assist with the information for the gun below the only thing written on it is AVAR MAGNUM and a four digit number.

    It is a Turkish shotgun. I don't know who imports this brand into the United States but unless it was brought back in a car trunk from Canada or suitcase from abroad, there should be an importers name somewhere, probably on the barrel.

    I'm not familiar with the "AVAR" brand, but I trust Mr. Christian to get this correct. For him, its possible (probable, I think, based on grammar) that the questioner is not from/in the USA, so there may not be an import mark on the gun.

    This gun was NOT intended for shooting birds or clay targets.

    The pistol grip and rail on top of the receiver mean its someone's idea of a "tactical" shotgun, meant for close-range or indoor defensive use.

    Sometimes these pistol-grip only shotguns are called "Cruiser" shotguns, based on the Mossberg design of that brand name.

    The "Magnum" designation might mean it takes 3-inch shells (though pretty much all modern shotguns do).

    Also, it looks like it is a semi-automatic gun, though its a little hard to say based on the blurry incomplete picture.

    The response is quite insightful, you guys are right Im asking this question from Africa. What is the likely price range of for this gun, a dealer is trying to sell it to me.

    I have googled everywhere without a trace of the manufacturer or model. Since im new to guns he said there is no manual which bring up the issue of maintenance and proper handling.

    Difficult to give an exact price here since it appears that this model isn't sold in the USA. Based solely on the blurry picture, its also not entirely clear if this gun is new or used, or what condition its in.

    I also don't know how gun prices compare in Africa to the USA, so what is fair market price here is probably NOT fair market price there.

    As a few thoughts to consider, most pistol-grip type shotguns sold in the USA are pump (ie slide) action, and quality new ones can be found for as little as $250.

    Semi-automatic shotguns are generally more expensive, and "tactical" models with rails and other accessories also add to the cost.

    I'd guesstimate that if your gun were for sale in the USA, it might fetch somewhere around $350-450, since its an off-brand.

    Price in Africa? I have no idea.

    I might add that while many individuals like these shotguns without stocks because the short length makes them more portable and easy to conceal, the lack of a stock also makes them quite difficult to aim and to control under recoil.

    Personally speaking, I'd prefer a gun with a stock for defense use (which then might also be able to double for sporting use). Its probable that this gun will accept a stock possibly even a common one, though again, not being familiar with the model, I can't say that absolutely.

    Also, not being familiar with the gun in question, I'd have to question its durability and reliability.

    Whether or not it makes sense to buy it depends largely on what you want to do with it, and the price.

    It is a brand new gun and i have include the full length pics though i took the pictures with my phone not too clear.

    Since i'm new to gun is this a semi-automatic and advise on the safety of this gun. Since there is no manual of this gun. i want to buy and use it for home defense and also can i hunt with it.

    This type of shotgun is a poor choice for any use.

    You can probably get a Browning or Beretta shotgun anywhere in the world; stick with a name brand. If this one is all that your dealer has, find another dealer.

    If a dealer doesn't have product catalogs, check the website of the major manufacturers. You should be able to pick out a shotgun that meets your needs, not settle for something that the dealer wants to get rid of.

    Actually, its a Turkish gun like Mr. Christian rightly said; I own one of this and it has the number 339 written on it. I also live in West Africa and I bought mine for about $2,200.

    Its a Semi-Automatic and it contains 7 in the magazine and 1 in the Chamber. Its quite easy to use.

    The thing about these guns is that there are very few dealers here in West Africa so its not like you have all the choices in the world to chose based on names - You are only lucky to get a dealer to get you one and you license it immediately for use as home protection (In my case).

    I had a problem with it getting stuck once and then I had just fired it like twice - the dealer actually came and tore the whole thing apart in minutes and there was a ring that he removed and used a regular thread in place of the ring and its been wonderful ever since - Plus its been real easy to load and eject catridges.

    I love the pistol grip, I fire it with just one hand once in a while - and its real loud (Its very great and would scare those unwanted beings away) - Its the best Ive ever had though.

    Its a good gun. Only thing is that I had to download about four different manuals from the internet to be able to learn how to use it. I couldnt find its own so, BUT like someone pointed out - Its quite compatible with the other semi-autos BUT lacks a magazine shutter.
