British .303 - Charger Bridge & Scope Mount

Due to my advancing years my eyes are not what they used to be. I'd like to continue hunting with my sporterized .303 Lee-Enfield SMLE No 1 Mk III* which I've used for many years. However it seems that I am unable to mount a scope-mount without the Charger-Bridge which was removed a very long time ago.

Any ideas or suggestions??

  Williams side mount or, if peeps are better than barrel mounted, how about a rear peep sight that attaches to the left side of the receiver via the safety screw and ejector? Peep might work where notched rear does not?
