auto ordanance 1911
I have a Auto ordanance 45 auto 1911 clone. Recently bought a colt 22 cal coversion for a 1911. The slide for the conversion fits very tight on my reciever. Can this be fixed by a gunsmith or is it that the conversion kit will not owrk on my auto ordance reciever and will only work on a colt. It is not real bad and seems liek it could be filed down some to slide easy and not jam.

You should find a gunsmith that works on 1911,s and have him fit the 22 kit to your frame. 0 -
I've had similar problems in the past with Colt floating chamber conversion units and non Colt frames. With the pistol I had, it was interference between the ejector on the frame and the milled recess inside the conversion unit. There wasn't enough clearance so the ejector was binding.
Use a black Sharpie pen to put a coat of black ink on the ejector. The areas that are binding will rub off. Very carefully with a file remove the high spots on the ejector to correct the binding with the frame.0 -
Thanks for the info. I thought that at first also. So I removed the ejector and barrel. Just using the slide I found that it binds on the reciever so it is a problem with the slide itself. I will take to a gunsmith if I can find one around here in Neenah WI that works on 1911's and have the slide fitted to the reciever. 0 -
if this is a fairly light bind you can put some J.B. bore cleaner on the slide rails and use this to Lap the conversion unit to the frame However it will LAP both the frame and slide and WILL make for a slightly loose 45 slide to frame fit The J B will wipe off and is non embedding I use this to final lap my match pistol slides most gunsmiths will most likely use files I like the lap fit better. 0 -

Sorry to be confusing in my previous answer to you. I was referring to the fixed ejector on the receiver of the 1911 frame, Rather then the removable sheet metal ejector that is part of the conversion unit. That is where mine was binding.0 -

If it is the slide that fits tight try this old trick taught to me by a gunsmith friend of mine. Take a big rubber hammer and knock the top slide ridges with the hammer. The top slide is above the gripping ridges in the back where the slide becomes vertical and rap along the whole side of it on both sides. Believe it or not this will actually relax the metal(spring it a little)and the slide wil loosen up a little. This actually works and if it still does not give you the looseness you desire try a little rubbing compound on the slide rails but usually a good lube and firing it will loosen it right up for you. 0
