Glock 21SF Value (Trade-in vs Sale)

Hello from a new member!


Let me cut to the chase...I've been looking around at several 'brokers' with the thought of trading a Glock that I need to part with. I've received an offer, but I'm not sure how good it is or if I should just sell the gun outright.

First, here are the details on the gun:


Item: Glock 21 SF with Weaver Rail

Conditiion: NIB, Never fired

Sights: Factory installed Trijicon Night Sights (Green)

Trigger: Factory installed NY-1 (8#) trigger


Next, I've been offered $400 trade-in value towards another purchase by a reputable dealer. I think that maybe I could get more by selling it myself, but I don't have a clue about how to go about it, aside from the part of it having to be shipped to an FFL dealer.

I guess what matters most is if trading will save me enough headaches to be worth any difference in price...

    Go with the dealers offer, it's fair. Times are real tough now money wise, for lots of folks. NIB or not it's still a used pistol, not worth the hassle of selling it yourself. Not likely you can get a whole lot more then the dealer is offering you anyway. Unless it's to one of the free lance pharmaceutical salesmen down on MLK.

    I wouldn't part with it for that. You'd get more for it cash by selling to another individual. From a dealer, if that was cash, not trade in, it would be a good deal, but your going to be putting toward another item at retail price, its like getting $300 really.

    Put it in the local paper or wait for a gunshow. You should be able to get $500 cash for it.

    Hi, Two thing to remember, just because he is reputable doesn't mean his prices are good. So he can give you a decent trade-in price knowning he is going to sell you another overpriced(If this is the case) gun. Second(not sure if this is the case in all states), In PA when you tade something in, you save that amount in sales tax. Here that would be another $24. Plus you save what it would cost to sell on auction side or newspaper about another $20. Plus the hassle. If the guy has good prices, it sounds pretty fair.

    I just looked on the auction side it looks like you would get in the $525-550 range for a mint one. If you bought it new and never fired it I would sell the gun as new. Just stated in the auction that you purchased it and it was never fired. With the options I think you will do those price maybe more depending on how many high cap mags you have.

    There is a used model 21 at the local Cabelas with nights sight in like new condition for $549.99. New at just about any gun shop around the gun without night sights sells for $600 by the time you pay sales tax. Gunbroker is basically gun show prices, so if you were a dealer with a table and had that gun on the table that is the price tag you'd have on it. But don't forget with gun broker, you still pay shipping charges and an FFL transfer fee, so basically your adding $45-65 price to whatever gun you buy unless you got a deal with free or cheap shipping and a gun dealer who hooks you up for cheap. So that $525 dollar gun ends up being about the same as if you bought it local.

    $400 trade in is what you should expect from a dealer, but remember they are in business to make money. Bet if you wanted cash he'd give you $250 or 300 for it. Going thru the hassle of selling it local to another individual is definitely worth the extra $200 you'd make off it, don't you think?

    if you sell it yourself probably sqeeze another 50-100 out of it

    I want to pass along an update to everyone who replied...


    Over the weekend, I was in contact with an FFL dealer who had several Smith & Wesson M&P's for sale. Due to a childhood injury to my left hand and wrist, I thought the 9mm would be the best bet for me since I'm a southpaw (and left eye dominant...). One of the pistols for sale is a full-size 9mm (#209301), the asking price being $489.00.


    I sent him the details on my Glock, and asked if he would there was any interest in a trade...

    Earlier today, I got the following response:

    The gentleman offered me a straight-up trade, I only have to pay for the cost of shipping and PA sales tax!

    Not bad, not bad at all...[8D]


    Thanks for the input, it gave me a chance to exercise a little patience and not jump at the first offer.

    My thought exactly! CP There should be no sales tax on an even trade. Don't be surprised if shipping your gun to him runs about $60, and shipping back to you will run you another $30 along with transfer fees of another $25 to 30 bucks.
