.357 lever action
Hi,
Was out looking at shotguns this afternoon but saw a nice Marlin 1894CP, a .357 magnum lever action. I have a revolver of the same calibre and thought this might be a fun gun to go plinking with or take camping.
Anyone with experience of this gun? Is it fun to shoot or should I put the dollars to something else?

I'm considering buying a .357 lever gun, and I'm looking at the Marlin & the Rossi. Can anybody tell me which is the better gun & why?

I have both and would be hard pressed to say which is best. The Rossi was about half the cost of the Marlin. 0 -
I've had both, though my Marlin was a .44, not .357.
The Rossi was much rougher and made a nice winter project cleaning up tooling marks, etc. In the end it was a smooth, accurate and reliable weapon. My choice if looking for something close to the Win. 92 in looks and handling characteristics.
The Marlin required much less attention and would be my preference if I wanted to scope the rifle.
They're different enough in feel and design that if you handle both one is more likely to whisper sweet nothings in your ear than other. Take that one home and enjoy.0 -
I can only speak about the Marlin 1894C. Great gun, very accurate and easy to shoulder. The action took a couple boxes of ammo to really wear in, and after a few hundred rounds more, it cycles very well. 0 -
Just another option I also have a Henry toss up which I like better between the 3I like the brass look of the henry the best and it has great wood on it but it also cost more then the other 2 0 -
Marlin is twice the gun the foreign made Rossi is .. Fit and finish will be much better also.. I don't think the Rossi's are drilled and tapped for scope although I may be wrong on that one. .My orders are 20-1 for the Marlin's.. 0 -
Marlin IMO better fit and finish and if you decide to shoot 38's,the Rossi won't do it without some work.I have three 1894C wouldn't trade
them for nothing.0 -

I have a Rossi model 92 (older model) in 357 Mag. I shoot mostly 38 specials with no problems. Bought it used so I don't know if the previous owner did any work to it other than add a Williams peep sight. Gun is very accurate and alot of fun. The only Marlin lever action I have owned was a 336CS in 35 REM but it too was a fine rifle.0 -

Have to agree with you,I had an older 92 also shot 38's real well but the new ones I've seen won't function well even after they have been broken in.Wish I still had that 92 was fun and cheap.0 -
Thanks for the input everyone. I didn't know the Rossi had a hard time with .38's, that's a problem for sure as I have a bunch loaded up. In fact, I probably shoot more .38 than anything else.
I do like the Henry as well, but man they're pricey.

Another vote for the Marlin. Better quality, track record, Craftsmanship. Made in the USA and a fantastic Lever Gun. 0
