Browning a5
A friend of mine has a 1972 Browning A5 12 gauge with a vented rib, he says it was made in Belgium. It is new in the box has never been shot and assembled only twice. He is the original owner and has kept it in storage disassembled ever since he got it.What would it be worth? Thanks!

Hi to all
I have a browning a5 light 20 Jap,grade 1, Vent rib, with a 26" skeet tube that is still in plastic wrappings in the original box. It seems to be new and was purchased in 1980. Can you tell me value as i am helping a widow of a close friend.
Thanks

First thing to check is the friction ring settings. The A5 has options for low power and high power loads. If the friction rings are set for high power loads and he's using low power the gun will not eject the spent shell. If the friction rings are set correctly, and it still won't cycle check that the magazine tube is clean. Supposedly that only has to be clean and not oiled for the recoil spring to operate properly. However, I've "fixed" a number of A5s on hunting trips with the field expedient of wiping off the tube and squirting a little oil on it. If these suggestions don't work you'll need a real expert. . .or a gunsmith. 0 -

No mention of gauge. The older 16's need to be relieved if you wish to fire modern shells. Other than that it's cleaning, rings, and oil if nothing else is wrong. 0
