Hogue grips on P226 when to use washers?

Hi, I have a P226 and have new wood Hogue grips that fit on the pistol very nicely. But, have read about the need to use washers under the grips to keep from the grips cracking from the grip screws. How does one know when they are needed?

  I would follow the instructions from Hogue as to when to use washers or not. If needed they should have come in the package with the grips. If there were no washers with the grips and Hogue doesn't mention them I would not worry about it. That is just me.
