pact digital measure
Hello all i have a pact digital powder measure that is stumping me when i try to use it at home it wont stabilize. thought it was the unit so sent it back to pact ,got it back same thing. took it to work plugged it in works fine just as it should. took to it to my daughters house about 2 miles away does the same as here wont stabilize. does eletric grids flucuant that much? if so what type of unit are stabilizer can i get to get it to fucntion properly. any suggestions are more then welcome i really want to maybe get some use of this unit some day. thanks in advance Kevin

It sounds like maybe your house wiring has a Floating ground There is a small unit that you plug into a recepticle that has 3 lights that will tell you if anything is wrong with the wiring. I am clad you posted this it solves a question I have had for years my PACT always worked 100% and could not figure why other people complained about their unit. No one before you tried at other locations. 0 -
They are also sensitive to radio frequency interference (RFI). There might be a radio transmitter near your location that is affecting your PACT.
My former neighbor was a HAM, and every time he keyed his mic, my digital scale went bonkers. I simply could not load when he was enjoying his hobby.
Some other machines generate RFI that you would not suspect. Some clothes dryers, for example do so. Wireless networks, Bluetooth, cell phones/towers, remote controls, microwave ovens, electric motors and many more things could be culprits.0 -

My powder measure went goofy a while back. I called Pact on the phone, the guy talked me through a few steps I took while we were talking and it went right back to perfect. Took about four minutes.
You have to be careful and don't let it get shaken when it's on.
The top and ends of my table are solid hardwood 2-1/8 inches thick and it's 6-1/2 ft long, bolted to the floor and wall. The only thing that would bother the Pact while it's being used would be an earthquake.

The main thing that will bother a PACT is PACT. I ended up having to send my powder dispenser back to PACT after less than 100 loads. About two months later I finally got it back with a note that it doesn't work and a bill for $15. return shipping. How's that for customer service. These scumbags wrap themselves in our flag and brag about their lifetime warranty and then screw the customer. They even removed the serial number sticker so now it's absolutely worthless. I should have known better than to buy anything other than RCBS. Even when it was working the PACT was slow and noisy. If you ever need anything more than a phone call to PACT just save your money and replace it with another brand. PACT is absolutely worthless.

If PACT sent it back still broken and with the serial number removed, I rather strongly suspect there's more to this story than is being told. 0 -

if you buy RCBS, you ARE buying PACT, since they make it for RCBS
My RCBS unit has been great.

JustC, that was true with the first RCBS/PACT model, but not the current machines. They are now made by separate companies (the RCBS unit is made in China, more's the pity). 0 -
thanks 1st for the replies let me ask maybe a dumb question the power converter says 120vac to 12vac output. so if i made a battery box it would be dc voltage im i correct on this? thanks kevin 0 -
Yes if you hooked up a 12 volt battery then that would be clean D.C. power and I suspect trouble would go away Just make sure the power supply states output is 12 volts not 9 or 14 ETC
EDITISHUTE is correct I assumed [:(][V]the out put was also changed to D.C. I looked at mine and The plug in power supply does have DC output if yours does not convert from AC120 Volt to DC 12 volt then DO NOT use a battery. you would need what is called an backup power supply for P.C.S like they sell at Best Buy ETC these units are made to ride through short power failures. they have batteries but convert that back to the 120 Volt . I still think you need to test your house current for a floating ground. I have one of those testers but cant remember the name and my storage/shop is still snowed in.0 -

If you sent your powder scale back to Pact, telling them it didn't work, it seems that they would have told you why it didn't work and what was broken and what it would cost to fix it. Sending it back and telling you it doesn't work doesn't sound like Pact or any other manufacturer we deal with these days.
Tell us what the rest of your conversations were with them.

perry shooter - I don't think 12 volt dc would work. These things aren't like light bulbs. The inner components were for ac, not dc.

That was my point about PACT. I suspect that David attempted a little "shade tree" engineering of his unit, and then demanded that PACT fix his screwup.
PACT's position is probably that they'll fix anything they broke, but anything YOU break is on your hook. Some companies will fix things that customers break, but not many.0 -
Thanks perry and all the orthers. the plug in converter definatly says 120 ac to 12 ac so battery box is out. might try a ups unit as for pc's some have suppressoers and spike controls. perry i think i have a unit that will check the ground need to find the user manual and see. too cold to do anything anyway about 3 here i think thanks and i will let you all know if i find a fix Kevin 0
