H&R 922 Info

I was just reading the topic (http://forums.gunbroker.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=139709). I am trying to get a 922 from a friend and I was trying to find out how much it is worth. It has a 9 shot cilinder, loss 6 in. octigon barrel with little pitting, broke off front site, no hand grips, and can't find the serial # on it. I was wondering if it is possible to fix it. If I can find any info on it I would be very thankful.

    Model 922 means "9 shot" 22 "Caliber". Look on Gun Broker
    for 922 and see what they are asking for them. The one you
    describe is not worth much in the condition it's in. Sounds
    like it would cost more to fix than it's worth.

    From a "dedicated" H&R collector:
    The octagon barrel was used on the 1st Model, 1st Variation from around 1925 to around 1930. The serial number should be stamped on the left side of the grip frame bottom strut - if not there, it has been removed and is illegal to possess. If you really want one of these - check out the auction side - they show up on a fairly regular basis. The one your friend has sounds, to me, like "poison."

    The 922 is a decent quality firearm, and the one you describe would make a good winter evening project. If you can buy it for $30 or $40, you should be ok.

    I can't see the auction side because I don't have a credit card to set it up all the way. I just bought it for $50 dollars and he actualy wanted $75 for it. I am trying to find some new grips fot it but no luck. I also know a guy that can make me some if I can convence him to do it. It has black tape on it's handle that he put on to hold his homeade grips so I cant see it's ser#. I read that it was on the frame, on the handle in the front. But with the tape I can't see it.

    I just bought the pistol and it is great. I trade a $32scope/$20cash for the pistol. It does have it's faults but I just don't care. It is just that great of a gun. But I am trying to find out just what year it was made(ser#140417) or any other information on it(like grips for that make) that was not already listed on my Topic. If you can help with my problem. Please get back to me soon.

    the serial number puts this one in the first variation that used a two piece over size walnut grip.

    I just got a job at a gun smith acualty learning to work on guns and I am getting to work on my own pistol. I put over $180 in labor on it already including tightened barrel, ground of the back of the release trigger so it will release and lock, and the owner bored out all 9 cilinders. Since the origanel shells were made at a taper and the ones today are straight. I am hand making the grips right now but if anyone knows where I can get the origanel grips for the first variantion. I could really use them. Wish me luck. Please get back to me soon.

    If you will send me a picture of the gun or a tracing of the frame I may have a set of grips for you. Seems like you are just getting started in guna and are really trying.     Sorry to report I took the grips off my early 922 to make sure and I don't have any that will fit.
