spot of rust on crown

During a yearly cleaning of guns not used for many years I discovered a small spot of rust (thru the blue)at the crown area of the barrel on a Sako .338 Win Mag rifle. It does not appear to touch the rifling of the ID. My plan was to gently remove the rust with Kroil and a que tip and then a soft cloth with jeweler polish over a marble (small marble to assure I don't touch the rifling, then cold blue the area.

Since I haven't fired this gun in 20+ years, and don't have any big game hunts planned, I don't see the need to have the crown re-cut since the rifling is not effected.

Any recommendations? Am I planning to do something "bad" that might effect the rifle?

    I'd just use 0000 steel wool and Kroil or some other fluid if it was me.

    Sounds like a good plan to me. You're obviously aware of the need to stay clear of the rifling. Everything else is cosmetic.

    p.s. I never had much occasion to fire my .338 Sako so eventually traded it for a .270 that gets a lot more use.
