international transactions ...
Hello all, I have recently met a man on the web who is in poland. I want to purchase a non gun item from him but I have absolutely no clue how to handle such a thing wiithout taking a big risk. does anyone know of a safe trackable way to do such a transaction. the item is a knife identical to one my grandfather brought home from the war and it would mean the world to me to have it but i am frankly scared to send the man money without knowing the ins and outs of such a transaction. he seems to be on the up and up and I consider the knife due to obvious personal reasons to be priceless. can any of you assist me with info? thanks ahead of time, I apprreciate any info I can get. Tim

You met him how? Through a retail auction/sales outlet? If not, you must pass on the deal (I'm sure you mentioned the knife first and he has 'just what you need') He should be a merchant registered on one of the reputable sites, and has satisfactory user feedback, or no deal. Best, Joe 0 -
Probably the best way to do this is through a US import/export company. Talk to these folks:

I deal in eastern Europe all the time and once your money is in Poland there is nothing you can do, it is gone. I agree with givette; it is remarkable that this fellow just happens to have the exact knife you are looking for. You are rolling the dice; the guy might be completely honest, but I would not spend the money to find out. 0 -
See if you can find an import/export company that also offers escrow services... 0 -
Further information has come to light regarding transactions with a person operating out of Poland and claiming to be (among other things) and archivist or working as a researcher for a museum. Among the many names this fellow uses is Pawel Nowak, but just because the name does not match does not mean that you should not be on guard. The usual modus operandi is that he has "just what you've been looking for" and at a price that he is willing to sell for well below market value in order to raise funds for a sabbatical or some sort of travel for research purposes.
I urge anyone who is contacted by a person in Poland about buying specific items at very low prices use extreme caution.0
