I have a ballard pacific mod, in what I would say is in 80 percent condition, just wondering if sending it back to ballard and having them do a complete overhaul and retoration 0 -
As the old time collector told me, 100% factory* refinish is Zero original finish. An 80% Pacific is a good catch, leave it be.
*And the present Ballard Rifle Co has no connection with your old Ballard; which was likely made by Marlin anyhow.0 -
I completely agree... leave it alone. If it needs some work to make it function properly, then let me know so that I can get you in contact with the right person to help you tune it it back up. 0 -
The gun works fine ,locks up tight and the barrelis very clean and sharp, just thought I'd clean her up a bit. The wood is all matching with no cracks ,just a few nicks with use. Thanks 0 -

I'd say that is probably better than 80% then.
Personally, I think you can just clean it thoroughly and come out ahead.
I've never quite understood why collectors want a firearm the way you got it. To me nicer is better. 99% of the time there is no documented story as to how the dents and dings got there. So, I say if you are worried about what someone will pay for it someday then leave it completely original in every way except to clean it. If you want it to look nice for you to use, show, and shoot, then have it factory refinished. With original parts of course.0 -

Now that's unusual. Many Ballards have factory installed cracks in the wrist of the stock where it meets the frame [;)]
