Remington Autoloaders

Hi; I`m looking for a 20ga semiauto Rem and I really don`t know the differences between the 1100 or 11-87, not the new models. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, kacey2

    How many of you have experience with the Remington Autoloading centerfire rifles? Which model do you prefer? What caliber? The reason for such questions is I am looking at either a 7400 or 750 in either 30-06 or .270. I have bolt actions, and pumps, but have always wanted an autoloader. Any help is appreciated.

    I'm a big fan of Remington and collect the pumps but for a semi auto I went with the Browning the only Rem semi that I have had good luck with is the old model 8 and 81

    Like the previous poster said, go Browning BAR, Winchester SXR, Benelli R1, but stay away from the Remington Jam-o-matics. I have seen, shot and used the 740, 742, Four, and 7400. The 750 appears to be a 7400 with a couple slight engineering changes, and a name change. The Remingtons have to be surgically clean, properly lubricated, and the phase of the moon must be right. They are not trustworthy when the chips are down.

    "Neither I'd use a 742".........do a search here on the 742, nothing but trouble waiting to happen. if you want a 'good auto buy a browning.

    My 742 is a great gun but it's not a plinker. I can hold a 2 inch group at 100 yds. It's a hunting gun sight it in and bang a deer. Over the years I've put probably 300 shots thru it without a failure and it has never jammed. And for the money it's tough to beat. I agree there may be wear issues but after many many 100's of rounds. At half the price of a browning the decision is clear to be. to each their own.

    So you have never taken it woodchuck hunting? Can be lots of shooting there.

    Guess this will echo the posts above but I think it comes down to how much do you want to spend, how much shooting will you do, and what kind of shooting. I've had quite a few 742s over the years and have one now in 30-06 with a ten round mag and it makes a pretty good pig gun. They are somewhat prone to jamming although I've found if you keep them clean, and oiled, you're not likely to have many problems with occasional use. If you're shooting a lot, as in the prairie dog reference, I wouldn't go with one of the Remingtons. . .but not many folks shoot prairie dogs with a 270. If you want reliability and accuracy and cost isn't a factor go with the Browning auto. I've had quite a few of those in several calibers since buying my first one in 1968. But if you only want to spend a couple hundred dollars and shoot it occasionally a 742 will get the job done.

    I'd second the Browning(or SXR). Just a side note Scheels in Des Moines has their SXR's on sale for 499.00. I almost bought the 300WSM they had. They only had 30-06 and 300WSM, only good on in stock.
