GOOD TRADE??

I have a Norinco SKS ("N" Model) that accepts AK magazines in near perfect condition. I have a fellow who wants to trade a near perfect condition (96% -98%) Belgium Browning ATD (.22LR) plus $150.00.

Is this an exceptable trade? I know the market for AK's & AR's is starting to get less and less (unlike last fall), so it seems like a good deal to me.

    I have a Browning Buckmark .22LR with two magazines in good condition (90+%) and have a gentleman locally which has offered to trade me a Romanian Tokarev in 7.62x25 which is in good condition with five magazines.

    I don't use the Buckmark very much and have wanted to get a 7.62x25 caliber simply because of the powerful round which costs very little to shoot. To me this sounds like a decent deal, but the "imported" Tokarev's do not seem to have much value.

    Well, the reason I ask is because the prices for the same SKS are currently bringing around $550 - 600. I realize the "hype" may die down for high-capacity firearms. But I have not seen the ATD'd selling for the same money...Am I wrong on this?

    OK, I guess if nothing else, the Browning will gain in value and the SKS may not as greatly. I suppose that is one way to look at it.

    You see very few of the Browning's offered for sale because they are the kind of "classic" firearm that folks keep forever & hand down to their kids. I don't recall ever seeing one in a gunshop or at a gun show; they probably get snapped up as soon as they are seen.

    I never understood why folks pay so much for the SKS models that take AK mags, when you can get a real AK for $300-500 in most places. If your state prohibits AK's but an SKS is legal, then it might makes sense. Many AK/SKS rifles have been bought by folks who aren't real shooters/collectors, just folks scared of the gun grabbers; when money gets tight, or political winds shift, they sell their guns.

    (I gave my Grade II Miroku ATD to my kids.)

    Sounds like a good trade to me, I prefer a Belgium ATD over an SKS, even the ones that take AK mags, especially if the ATD has a wheel rear sight.

    SKS accuracy is generally better that the AK-47. The Paratrooper SKS-D models (which accept the AK magazines) are rather rare, although the standard models can be modified to accept the AK magazines. The SKS-D models have become somewhat of a collectors item.
    In practical terms, it is debatable whether detachable AK magazines are functionally better than a standard SKS and stripper clips. But it is likely that these models will continue to appreciate faster than most other firearms.
