Nylon 66 continued

Looks like brown and not green to me, thoughts? Also I'd like to know if anyone thinks this stock is a swapped out stock from a newer one, meaning should this action have come with a Seneca stock and how would I know that based on the numbers. Thanks for the input.

    That's an early standard Mohawk Brown Nylon 66. The rear sight is the early style with the large headed screw for windage adjustment. Also, no serial number means it was made before the 1968 Gun Control Act took effect.

    Are the Mohawks decent rifles? I never messed with them but I noticed my local pawn shop had 2 of them.

    I've had one since 1976 when I bought it used for $30. It's a tack-driver and has never malfunctioned. It's arguably one of the most reliable semi-auto .22 rifles ever made.

    A Nylon 66 may not have the best trigger pull, but it is ok and mine is 100% reliable. $30 bucks...worth more than that now!

    they were good, reliable rifles. just 2 'don'ts' with the m-66's 1. don't take them apart, 2. don't put a scope on them.

    Mike, why don't scope? It appears to be groved for a rimfire base. Old eyes beg for scopes. Thanks JP I am thinking a compact rimfire scope about like yours.

    I have a scope on mine and it works great. It is a simmons 4X28. A 4X32 is too big for this rifle, my opinion.

    "Mike, why don't scope? ".........the scope attaches to the 'tin' action cover, held to the stock with 2 bolts. the barrel attaches to the front of the stock. other than being held to the same piece of (flexable) plastic they have no solid mount.

    don't lay them in the sun or hot place like on a package tray in an older vehicle...have had to shim the barrel in the plastic stock ribs to get it in alignment...got a chrome & black one...there was also some made in Argentina?? clones of remington for a short while

    That would be Brazil by CBC (Cartuches Brasilera Compania) and they were made under license from Remington.
    They are no more difficult to reasssemble than any other 66; just remember to push down on the link as you slide the bolt back in.
