WTK does the Ithica 87 slame fire?
I have an Ithica 87 riot gun, and when i dry fire it, it seems like it should slam fire like the Ithica 37's i've dealt with.....however, it does not. During test firing i was only able to get it to slam fire once. When attempting to slam fire, the hammer does fall, but will not set off the round, although the hammer is no longer cocked.
Is this normal? Or am i doing something wrong? I tried pumping it quickly and slowly. Either way i got the same results.

The model 87's have a disconnector which requires the shooter to release the trigger and "reset" before the trigger can be pulled again. Liability concerns were probably the reason for the redesign. Model 87's look exactly like the parent Model 37's but are different with the disconnector. Winchester Model 12's were the same way. When rapid firing (aka slam fire) the lightweight Model 37's are fairly hard to control. I have 5 M37's (2-12ga, 1-16 ga and 2-20 ga) and the 12 guages weigh no more than 6 3/4 pounds so recoil will bump the shooter.

The later Model 37's that came out of the Ithaca factory were not slam fire guns. They were made with the trigger disconnect. None of the 87's made in King Ferry NY were slam fire guns. 0
