VZ-24 Bolts

I am looking for a VZ-24 bolt ( turned ), however , there seems to be a large void in our ( US ) parts inventory of this item. Can anyone explain why ?

    It has been 60+ years since those rifles were built in the first place. What spares there were have long since been used up.

    The various makers of Mausers seemed not to have turned out nearly the number of spare parts that we did for Springfields. There just were never many out there.

    I think alot of 98 Mauser bolts will fit this rifle.I believe yours uses a straight bolt handle type.

    What U.S. parts inventory? You write as if this is an American responsibility to keep 70 year old parts around for every imported firearm.

    There were between 10 and 13 million Mausers manufactured for the war effort in Germany and in several other countries, Czechoslovakia being the one to make the VZ24 you are asking about. However, at the end of the war(s) most of the German firearms were confiscated by the many governments looking for retribution and compensation. So whatever stockpiles of Mauser M98 rifles and parts existed, have been scattered all over the world for nearly 70 years.

    In American, the demand for Mausers has always been high because they were inexpensive. This brings out two significant problems:

    - The Mausers were cobbled together and cobbled on by every wannabe gun scrapper in the U.S. with thousands upon thousands of actions and rifles ruined through a lack of skill and knowledge. This severely depleted both the original rifles as well as the original parts. Then when the surplus companies entered the scene, the Mausers were treated like junk yard cars and scrapped out into piles of parts to be sold at cut rate prices. Very little value was attached to the rifles or the parts so we weren't careful with either because they were, shall we say, disposable, in so many words.

    - Because of the inexpensive nature of the rifles and parts, many folks simply bought a number of either and have them put away, some probably forgotten by now and won't see the light of day until they are remembered. I happen to know for a fact that there are most likely 10's of thousands of Mausers and parts put away, waiting for the day when someone comes along and is willing to pay some serious money for parts because they can't find them anymore.

    There are others, you just need to do a search for them. Any standard large ring M98 Mauser bolt will fit your VZ24. If you're looking specifically for a VZ bolt, you will need more patience and time to locate one unless one of our members volunteers one.

    I think you may be confused. The VZ24 is a standard large ring Mauser period.

    1.410 diameter receiver ring, 8.750 in length, with screw spacing of 7.835. Barrel Shank of 1.100
    Large ring have a threaded shank diameter of 1.10 in. With 12 threads per inch.
    Including M-98's from WWI and WW2, GEW-98,M-98k, CZ-24, VZ-24,Spanish M-43/44 . Chilean M1912, Steyr Brazilian M1908/34, Brno 98/22, 98/29, DWM / Argentine. M1909, M24/30 Venezuelan, FN M1935 Peruvian, FN Standard Model, Mauser Oberndorf"

    EVIL DR.
    There were two VZ-24 bolts, one for 7 mm and turned . The other straight for 8mm. The stock is inletted for the turned bolt handle .

    Thank-you for the explanation. I have a handle on a striped bolt. Will 98 componets work to complete it ?

    Assuming that the striped bolt didn't come with the rifle don't forget to check the headspacing, not all M98 bolts are made to the same specs. Running a Go and NoGo gauge set into the chamber will be cheap insurance.....

Any standard large ring M98 Mauser bolt will fit your VZ24.".........not wanting to rain on your parade but,...the vz24 is an intermediate lenght action and 'safty breeched' to boot, a standard m-98 bolt will not fit. you need a vz24 bolt or possibly a m-48 bolt.

    My Vz's are full length. Are you thinking of the FN24 or m24/47 possibly?
