11 degree crown ?
I have a military sporterized rifle that I have hunted with for years. Until recently, it has always held the 10 ring for accuracy. However, after many hunts and hard use the muzzle crown is pretty bunged up and in need of recutting to help restore it's former accuracy. I am thinking about an 11 degree crown. What is everyone's opinion as to what degree of crown to apply.

Just as a suggestion, you might want to go through the rifle and do some critical cleaning.
The angle of the crown is insignificant so long as the crown is concentric with and perpendicular to the bore. You can have a flat target crown, a recessed crown, a stepped target crown, an 11 degree crown, a crown made with a radius and a hundred others so long as you pay attention the perpendicularity and concentricity.

I had this rifle cut down from 24" to 16 1/2" and had the smith put an 11 degree crown on it. IMO I can't tell the difference in accuracy from the original to the new--I just like the way it looked. A true target gun you might be able to tell--might not.0 -

Gilman-Mayfield in Fresno, CA did the work. That rifle was a basketcase that I was basically given. It had chunks of wood missing from the stock, scratches on the end of the barrel, and crappy sights. I had them put on new wood, cut & crown the barrel, put on Marbles sights like what is on the Marlin Cowboy rifle. I wanted a .30/30 Guide Gun and since Marlin didn't offer one, I had it made to my specs. 0
