another old rifle ? AFTER thought edited
Hi i have a old winchester rifle that was found in a bulding.
it looks to be in nice shape. i am not worried about value
as of now
SORRY my bad i think it is a 33 w.c.f. serial #158316
it is a model 86
the barrel address manufactured by the winchester repeating arms co.
new haven.conn.u.s.a.pat.oct.14.1884.jan.20.1885.
-nickel steel barrel-especially for smokeless powder 33 w.c.f.
on the top tang model 86 -winchester- trade mark reg.in.u.s.pat.off.
it has a marbles rear sight and elevater proof marks on barrel and
receiver p over w up side down t in a circle there is a 34 in a diamond on the bottom of reciever beside the lever

Pictures and alot more info is needed. It could be worth alot or not much depending on model, caliber, date on manufacture and condition, condition.

It is a Model 1886. The serial number will tell us when it was exactly made, but it will be 1904 or later. Do not redo anything on that rifle. 0 -
I have six 1886's. They range in date of birth from 1888 to 1903.
I was on the Cabella gun library last night trying to find a match for my 6er in 38-56. I'm surprised! It looks like the 6er's are way outpacing the 73's on price. They are, much to my surprise, worth a hell of a lot more than I thought. But, I haven't checked prices since I bought them all in the early to mid 80's and all for around 300 +- a hundred. It appears that a beater (NRA Fair to Good) is worth around 1500 to 2K.
One of mine is Winchester lettered to have been shipped to the 101 Wild West Show (I didn't know that when I took it for trade on rent in 1982 for $325.00).
Don't do anything to it except shoot it (pay the price for the ammo).
There are not many things on God's Green Earth as good as shooting a real Winchester lever action rifle that "Won the West." Do the 100 yard thing with your open sights and reflect on the craftsmanship of long ago.
No telling who shot it, who or what it killed and how many people it fed. Tell your kids the same thing and put it in trust for your generations to come - so nobody can sell it!
Though I own a hell of a lot of guns (33 are Win Levers), There are only two guns I literally love. Win Levers and SAA Colt (1st gen).
The Marbles rear is most likely SO.

according to the blue book,the DOM for that serial number which is not nearly as accurate as Bert, puts your rifle between 1919 and 1920.
