    Hellbender,
    Welcome to the Forum.
I think we need a little more information before any meaningful advice can be offered. Unclear to me; do you have barrel AND action, which is missing a bolt? Or just the barrel and stock and need an entire action? Has the stock been inletted? If so, presumable the action area is inletted for the action you have, or that your grandfather had in mind.[?][?]
Pictures would be helpful as well, but a good starting point would be clarification of exactly what you do and don't have and how much work has been done on the stock.
    Good luck,
p.s. The only true custom rifle I have is a .308 built up on a Sako action and Shilen barrel. A fun gun.

Having trouble attaching the pictures. After hitting the "Insert Image"
button I just get text in the box. Should I get a window open to browse my pic files or is there some trick?

    It's only a start if everyone's a member...

This is set for 'medium' size photos as the large ones take over the forum.

Numrich/Gun Parts Corp has a decent online catalog witch I believe includes exploded diagrams. They carry parts for the US model 1917 and the P14 which I expect is what the action is. But, setting up a barreled action properly for competition shooting is not for the average beginner. You might want to consider sending the metal out to be completed and blued to a good riflesmith who is well versed in these old milspec actions.
