UPDATE on rockola

serial number 1277965...also has the letters H.T. stamped on the bottom of the safety switch...thanks for any info

    Craig Reisch's book "US M1 Carbines: Wartime Production" shows serial number block from 1,000,000 to 1,349,000 assigned to Winchester. His book is pretty well accepted as correct in matters of the M1 carbine. I don't understand a Rockola getting a serial number assigned in this block. Is there any chance you misread a number? Also, Rockola did not assign any letter codes to their safeties. I fear your carbine might be a build-up from spare parts, but that still doesn't answer the serial number range.

    The "Rock-ola" on the carbine pictured is stamped on the recoil plate. The manufacturer's name will be stamped on the receiver just in front of the serial number. It is under the replacement adjustable rear sight; you may need to look closely with a strong light, or use tracing paper to copy the name.

    By the way, what was your oriiginal question?

    where did the rockola rate with the other models...the serial number i'm seeing is in the range of the winchester model...1277965...heading to the safe and going with your info to see what i have,other than rockola you see in the pic...thxs gary

    serial is correct,it is a winchester...they do make it tough to read...dad paid 350.00 for it back in the day,looks like he did ok on it...thanks for the info!!!

    Rock-Ola carbines are the rarest of all the companies with the exception of Irwin Pedersen. IP carbines were not general issue. Rock-Ola only made about 228,500.

    The reason the serial numbers are very hard to read is the original rear sights were the 2 aperture flip sight that did not cover the number. When these were replaced with the larger windage and elevation adjustable sights, these sights protruded to the rear covering the serial number.
