S&W .32 hammerless SA top break pistol
I have recently inherited this pistol and would like to know when it may have been made, which edition it is and possibly the value.
The markings are on the top of the barrel and it reads: Smith & Wesson Springfield, MASS USA pat'd FEBY 20 77 DEC (10 or 18 too small to read)77 MAY 11 80 SEPT 11 80 OCT 2 83 TWO AUG 4 85.
The serial # is 2666. Took the grips off and the number matches. The nickel is not in that bad of condition considering the age and the rifling is still very visable. The barrel is 3.5".
If you could help me with any information it would be greatly appreciated.

From the serial number it appears to be a very early production, "First Model Safety Hammerless". They were made between 1888 and 1902, with over 90,000 manufactured. With the serial number on yours, it's considered a antique by the feds, which would tend to increase it's value to some folks. It was manufactured for low pressure Black Powder ammo, best to not stress it by firing modern smokeless ammo in it. For a accurate valuation photos would be best. Sight unseen my WAG is that it would be in the $150-$300 range. 0
