sks issues

i have a Yugo SKS, that has some serious issues. i recently replaced the gas valve, and put a new rear housing on to mount a scope, and a synthetic stock. the gun will fire once then I have to struggle to get the carrier to slide back to let me reload, i have to use a lot of strength to get it to move it. but if i cycle it by hand with no ammo it's moves half way decent
any help would be appreciated

    Are the parts you changed for a Yugo??Yugo's differ from other SKS and are a class of there own.

    Pezhead is correct. Yugoslavian steel wasn't as high grade as the Soviet, so they compensated by making many parts thicker.

    But, your problem may also be due to the synthetic stock. It might be helpful if you told us who made it. You may need to get some inletting marker, & go to work on the stock with a Dremel.

    is the bolt in the carrier correctly? carrier in the rails? did your sks run with the original housing, valve and stock? if so , put he other cover back on and or back into the other stock. get a boltgun for your scope and have fun with your sks.

    would it make a difference where i had the main spring resting. i had it resting on that tab in front of the receiver cover locking pin, i saw some instructions online where the spring rests on back of the receiver cover

    Should be on the back of the receiver cover.

    I personally don't trust those sks receiver cover scope mounts. They move around under recoil and you'll never hold a zero. Try ditching that cover for the original (plus putting the recoil spring in the correct location) and see if that doesn't solve your problems.

    so i brought it to this guy i work with he took one look and and said it's getting hung up on the after market magazine. he made some adjustments and hand cycled it with ammo, i'm going to test it some time this weekend

    Everyone is always trying to turn their SKS rifles into AKs. If you want what is effectively an AK, just pay another $100 and swap your SKS for one. The AK will run 100% right out of the box, and high cap AK mags are cheap and plentiful.

    Also, even though lots of people do it anyway, affixing a detachable high capacity magazine to a Yugo SKS is probably illegal unless you ALSO switch out a number of other parts.

    Admittedly, the law here is murky, itself questionable, and poorly enforced.

    Still, if you build a gun on a foreign-made receiver (like your SKS) in a configuration that would be illegal to import, then you are running afoul of the BATFE section 922 rules. Turning a 10 round fixed capacity semi-auto gun into a detachable mag high cap gun applies.

    Solve all of your problems - -buy an AR-15 (or a good clone). Much more reliable with a better round and quality accesories available.
