Need info on shipping airgun (pellet gun)

Does anybody know where I'd find info on shipping a .177 pellet pistol with a rifled barrel? ATF doesn't have anything. I've got a C&R license, but do I have to ship to another C&R? The pistol in question is 70 +/- years old. Thanks in advance for any help. And moderators, if this post belongs in a different forum, please accept my apologies and make the switch.

    You are good right here. Air guns, no matter what their age, are not firearms and there are no BATFE regulations addressing the sale, transfer or shipping of air guns. What you are up against is a huge minefield of state, county and even city laws that deal with air guns. Your best bet, if you don't have time to research all of these laws, is to simply get the buyer to provide you with a disclaimer stating that there are not state or local laws prohibiting him from possessing an air gun.

    Agreed. SO FAR, the Federal gov't has mostly managed to keep its nose out of airguns.

    Locally? Not so much.

    Most jurisdictions in the USA don't restrict these, though there are plenty that do.

    In the wonderful state of NJ, for example, airguns are classified as firearms.

    As previously stated, we are not to that state yet of Federal regulation of air guns. Although, some of the ones that are 25 thru 50 caliber can routinely kill big game. Just as long it is legal for the person being shipped to to own, I do not believe there is a problem.

    One caution- the US POSTAL SERVICE considers them a firearm. (Yes, I know- you really expect Gov't rules to make sense?) DO NOT mail a pellet pistol unless you are a dealer or manufacturer. C&P from the USPS Domestic Mail Manual, Definitions:
    b. Pistol or revolver means a handgun styled to be fired by the use of a single hand and to fire or otherwise expel a projectile by the action of an explosion, spring, or other mechanical action, or air or gas pressure with enough force to be used as a weapon.

    c. Firearm means any device, including a starter gun, designed to, or that may readily be converted to, expel a projectile by the action of an explosion, spring, or other mechanical action, or air or gas pressure with enough force to be used as a weapon.
