DOM, Smith 24
Happy New Year!
Sitting here in the middle of a 3 day new england snow storm and thinking about things I don't know but wish I did about some of my hardware.
Have a Smith N-frame, .44 Special, 6 1/4" barrel. Always thought of it as a Model 24 but I don't know if it predates that model designation.
Serial number of 144,999 is stamped on the frame and barrel, with an "S" preceding the frame number. 61679 is also stamped on the inside of the crane recess.
If someone who has the reference material could tell me approximately when this revolver was built I'd sure appreciate it.
Thanks,

Made about the end of 1955. It would have no model number as Smith didnt start using model #'s until 1957. Its what would be referred to as a Pre-model 24. The other number in the crane area is an assembly number. 0 -
