scope mount for sks

i have a norinco 7.62x39 rifle i want to put a scope on i tried the b square mount but it kept changing point of impact ive used the barska mount 3 other times with excellent success but ive lost the use of my hands for filing down the mount i have a gunsmith in nj who has been trying to mount the barska on the gun but he has not got it mounted right yet in two and a half months i know he is jerking me around has anyone used the original dust cover to mount a scope or do yoy have any other type of mount yo would recommend any help would be appreciated thanks hank in nj

    I don't think any of the action cover mounts will hold zero very well. I found about 3" difference between POI of the first round loaded by pulling the operating knob and following rounds self loaded. Ended up putting a tension band around the top cover/scope base to cut this down to a useable level but now the rifle looks like it's held together by a hose clamp.

    Have to agree with Mobuck. Best I got was 2-3 groups at 100 yards and was very happy with it since IMHO, it was not really built for accuracy. [}:)]

    You can also try a gas tube mounting system ...

    I've mounted scopes on several sks's using a Weaver side mount, this requires drilling and taping the receiver.

    If you want it to hold zero, go with a receiver mount.

    This is THE best way to go for a solid mount, though not only do you have to have the gun receiver drilled and tapped for it, you may also have to have some wood routed away from the side of the stock to fit the mount in place.

    Also, you may lose the ability to use stripper clips to load the gun, depending on how this is set up.

    The action cover mounts generally vary from really bad to pretty bad, depending on how they are held in place, but they have the advantage of being relatively easy to install. (The easier they are to install, the worse they are!).

    Supposedly its possible to get a good result if you get one of the oversized ones and carefully file it down to get a good solid fit against the receiver. It probably ought to be so tight you have to tap it into place with a mallet.

    I gave up on cover mounts for a scope on an SKS. POI constantly changes. I am back to plain old iron sights and 3 inch groups at 100 yards instead of 6 inch groups at 100 yards with the scope.
