what would the recoil of a t/c encore in 7 rem mag with 120 gr. bullet compare in recoil to a t/c contender in 45/70 with 325 gr bullet?? both with 16" barrels and muzzle break

    I found that the high velocity bullets cause more recoil than the heavy slow bullets. It is more of a push with the 45-70, and the small fast bullet has more of a jolt. I didn't have a 7mm, but in 35 Remington it was much more felt recoil than 45-70.

    Not long ago I recall a posting of a recoil chart showing the various Cal. recoil in pounds. Many factors contribute to the true recoil,but this was a cal./bullet weight chart. Maybe posted by one of the forum officers? Can't recall right now.

    Of course, that does not include the pressure curve... a 45-70 could be seen as a strong push whereas a 7mm could be seen as a sharp punch...

    All else being equal, I think the 45-70 is more like a push/shove and the 7mm will be like a sharp punch...

    during the last 40 yrs
    and stupidly I shot
    my son-in-laws Rem 700
    in 7mm mag, I will never
    shoot one of them sob's
    again

    It's important to bear in mind that we all perceive recoil in different ways. The fit of the rifle can make a significant difference in that perception as can the weight of the rifle.

    The Encore is a very light little rifle. I have 4 frames (Contender & Encore) and about 30 barrels, rifle and handgun. My experience is that the Encore/Contender platform handles lighter bullets moving at a high speed better than it handles heavy bullets. This is of course subjective and from someone who enjoys his 416 Rigby and 458 Win Mags. [;)]

    I use a the 16" 45/70 as a handgun, it is rather pleasant to shoot.

    guys, a handgun is what i am talking about. i am not recoil sensitive. i have shot large caliber handguns for a long time. and yes, i do shoot my 14" 45/70 with hornaday 325 gr. leverevolution ammo. it's a trip but fun.i can hold 11/2" groups from a bench at 75 yds. so i am not flinching. i was thinking about the 7mag as a fun project.
