the resident Winchester expert here is Bert H. and he is also a moderator. Pics definately help. The letter you ordered from the Cody Museum will give you more info. One mans 90% is anothers 75% so that is why pics are so important. They are easy to post here just check the sticky on the front page of the experts section.

The serial number should read 454530B with no extra or unusual looking space between any of the digits or letter.

The only "history" that you can get on that rifle is what you can derive from its previous owners. The CFM letter will provide you with the date that it was received in the warehouse from the assembly room, the original as built configuration (caliber, barrel, trigger, and if it was factory nickel-plated), and the date that it was sold.

Without pictures, we are in the dark.

    You are quite welcome[:)].

What serial number did you request a letter for?

This is what the serial number stamp should look like...

the serial # i requested from cfm was 454530B. with that said i also told her that it looked like a space between the #s and the oB & the o being at a hard slant to the right. i hope soon to know how to down load pics. i will get you a close up of the number so you can see.

    THANKS AGAIN Bert [:)]
