I can't seem to get the pictures on here for some reason. It is a 30-06 with serial number G1466041. It has the monte carlo cheek and the black tip on the fore end of the stock.

    mdledl,

There is a 'Sticky' right at the top of this forum titled 'Posting Photographs' which should help you figure it out.

Probably made in the 70s, they were the answer to the Remington 700 BDLs... Nice looking rifles...imo...500 area/

XTR means extra finish on metal and wood. this is the standard grade model of the time and not supergrade

were all guns in that time frame made as an XTR or is this a model like the sporter, feather weight and so on? Where would this gun rate in the models offered, more entry priced or a better version?

I have a Winchester model 70 xtr. Is this the same as a super grade or is this completely different. I cannot seem to find anything about the xtr. It is also is very good condition, a few scrapes on the stock but overall very good condition. What would this gun be worth?
Thank you to anyone who can help me with this.
[:)] Not surpised your unable to get much info. on these rifles. Hopefully this will change as they become "re-popular". What you have is a Winchester Model 70 XTR built between 1978-1989. I do not know the exact year however a web search of "Winchester Model 70 XTR serial numbers" can identify your rifle's approx. year of manufacture if it was built prior to 1981, not much info. on post '81 available yet. It's not a "Super Grade", its an XTR, they made another one called the XTR Featherweight starting in '81, then a sporter.Depending on the productuion year, people seem to "value" the OLIN Winchester/Western('78-'81), ones over the later ones, all things being equal(condition/finish/caliber), I'd say around six hundred dollars is the "going" price, that depends on who selling it or who you'r talking to and any extrs/modifications done with the rifle. The .30-06 ones are desirable and the .270 Win.'s are popular too.
