Hey there folks. Just looking for confirmation....this is a "U.S. Magazine Rifle calibre 7.62mm Model of 1916" correct? I realize the rod and upper forend wood is missing....but just from looking does it look like the rest is there? Thanks so much and have a happy new year!

  I believe that you have a Russian Model 1891 Mosin-Nagant manufactured by Remington. You may want to measure the barrel length (with a cleaning rod down the bore); it should be 31.6", if I am correct.
  
  I see nothing missing other than the cleaning rod & sling swivels; it was not made with a fore end. The wood & metal have been heavily refinished. The caliber could be ?

  Should be a 7.62X54R, the standard Russian service cartridge. Russia contracted with Remington and, IIRC, Westinghouse to build these rifles for them during the WW I period.

  You remember correctly[8D].. Remington was also contracted to build the french Mle 1907/15.. The un-delivered/un-paid for Russian and French rifles were purchased by the U.S. Government, and were subsequently sold, most through the DCM.. My Russian was Westinghouse, and the French 1907/15 was Remington.. Both un-issued, like new.. Here's some info..

  Also.. The original Remingtons had American Black Walnut wood.. Yours appears to have been replaced with a Russian stock, at least it doesn't appear to be walnut.. I believe the originals had a Remington cartouche, of some sort..

  Does your Remington have the Finnish "SA" marking on the receiver? If so, it may have been captured by Finland in one of their wars with Russian and reissued to Finnish soldiers. Frequently, Remington Mosin-Nagants used in a war will have a Russian bolt with non-matching numbers. I love the history of those Remington Model 91's.
