Marlin 783. What's the trigger guard coated with?

A magnet doesn't stick to the trigger guard.
Brownells Gun Kote wrinkles up.
Krylon looks OK but chips too easy.
What can I use to coat the guard ?

  aluminum/pot metal i would find an epoxy paint
