I would like to get into cowboy shooting (because I are one)[;)][:)]
Is there a national website I can to go to to find what is available in my area (NW Alabama)?

    Good luck. I contacted a club in my area thinking my wife and I could use/share our ONE Colt SAA. I was told you need TWO revolvers to compete, plus a rifle, a shotgun, and a stupid cowboy costume.

    Thanks, I will check it out. Being a 'real' old cowboy I am not much for 'rules' so I may not fit in either!!![;)]

    Northwest Alabama, you say?
    North Alabama Shooting Association in Sheffield puts on a small Cowboy shoot on the Second Sunday Afternoon of the month.
    The North Alabama Regulators shoot at Cavern Cove, Grant, AL, which is not exactly NW, but it is a big fine club worth the trip.
    There are also substantial clubs in Byhalia, MS and Wartrace, TN that might be within your "combat radius."

    Don't worry overmuch about equipment, you will be made welcome and any shortages in gear taken care of.

    If you want some fun, also take a look at Cowboy Fast Draw Association.

    They use .45 Colts, but no rifles and no shotguns. It is all fast draw competition. The guns are real, but the .45 Colt ammo is loaded with wax bullets. Lots of fun.

    Toooo many people who are not SASS shooters gripe and complain about our 'costumes' .You can go bare minimum,,,jeans,button shirt and cowboy boots forever if u want to.I hardly call that a 'costume'.
    Cowboy action shooting under SASS guidelines was designed,from the getgo,to be a fun,relaxing,family-oriented game,and it is.Ladies and Juniours compete right alongside the men,and quite often whip their butts soundly.
    If you don't like rules,we may not be for you. WE are ADAMENT about safety,and our rules are very inflexible on that subject.
    It is not a cheap shooting sport to get into...what is???...but the 1st time you ring that steel ,we've gotcha !!

    The United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA). A $400 revolver or semi-auto, a $20 nylon holster and you're in.

    American Single Shot Rifle Association (ASSRA). About $600-800 for a worn but shootable Stevens Ideal rifle and you're ready to go. And if you really want to go cheap you can find a Trapdoor Springfield for $400.

    North South Skirmish Association (NSSA). A reproduction Civil War rifle for $350.

    Compare these to SASS competition where you need TWO revolvers PLUS a rifle PLUS a shotgun.

    CFDA comes in pretty cheap too. For CFDA, you are looking at $250 for a brand new Uberti .45 Colt replica (available on GB auction side) and about $150 for a basic belt and fastdraw holster. Pretty darned cheap. As for SASS, our costumes range from a basic boots/jeans/hat combo to as complicated as you want to get.
