REM 742 WOODMASTER

Aquired a Remington 742 Woodmaster .308 cal. that needs a good cleaning and some stock refinishing. The ser.# is 112440. Anyone have an idea of when it was made. Thanks - Garry

    Remington's have a date code on the left side of the barrel, just forward of the receiver.

    Give us the code, one of our folks can help figure DOM.

    I removed the forearm and the numbers show [& P K 1 4 ]

    Your 742 was made in June of 1963 , P for June and K for 1963 ! You shouldn't have had to remove the forend to find the date code though .

    as to the 'good cleanin' you need to remove the barrel to get at the "bolt latch" and springs & plungers (the round ended plunger goes to the front)
