Originally, all they had was the 110. That number is based on the MSRP of $109.98.
Once they started chambering 'short-action' the numbers game was on. Short became two digit and long was three digit.
Savage170 posted what they sell today. Even Savage it seems can't keep up with the changes they make. 10/110 precision shooting rifles are under the Law Enforcement section of the model 10/110. Otherwise, there are a bunch of model 10's and 110's around that are basically a hunting rifle. Savage went to a beech stock instead of a walnut stock to save money. That became the 11/111. But, it gets better. Then the 11/111 got offered in composite. later, the 10/110 got offered in composite. Composite was so popular that the "all stainless" version, the 16/116 was offered.
Shortly after the 110 "Tactical" was brought out, that line morphed into the 12/112 target/ varmint series. Wood laminate or composite stocked, heavy barrels, drilled for scope bases, stainless or CM barrels. Lots of interest in the 12 line has kept it going. But the 112 cartridge line languished one by one and they dropped it. Lastly, they came out with the 14/114 line that is classic American styling. Back to what the 110 started out being. But, better looking.*
So, you can get a 10/110 made for hunting or tactical. A 11/111 in strickly low budget hunting model. 10/110 and 11/111 were the only ones I know offered in packages. You can get a 12/112 that is made for varmint/target shooting. A 14/114 is the classic stylish rifle. the 16/116 in stainless composite.
*-I often wonder if Savage came out with the 14/114 line because of what I've always said, "Savage put all the money in the rifle where it needs to be, anything left over they paid somebody to make it look ugly." [;)]....[:D][:D][:D]0 -

I pretty well agree with that one, they sure shoot well in my experience. At least you can get a lot of after market stocks for them now.

You have ben given great advice on your question. We have an awesome bunch over ere, with an incredible knowledge base.
What they didn't tell you about Savage, is that if you are going to buy one of their bolt actions, stick to the number seeries models. Stay away from the EDGE. I had a couple of them apart his past hunting season, and they are on par with the Remington 770. They are a major POS, and built completely different than the numbered series.

if money is a object get a stevens 200 it is basically the old savage 110 action with no accutrigger, and in my opnion a better rifle than the edge.... just saying 0
