english sxs percussion value

i bought an old percussion sxs its engraved on each side of receiver GEORGE NEWTON and on the rib it says London fine twist is this a treasure find or? also with appropriate loads is it safe tp fire

  Old percussion doubles are a bit less common than old breechloading doubles but neither command big prices and the 'London Fine Twist' marking was common on both English and Belgian guns. It should have proofmarks on the underside of barrels when removed that identify which it is. Suitability for firing needs to be checked by a gunsmith, and you should measure down inside of barrels to insure they are not still loaded!

  I've seen old double barrels that were unsafe/unable to fire bring as much as $300 just as decorative pieces.
  
  I did a www.dogpile.com search and found a few that had been auctioned off but couldn't see the prices on most of them. One brought $110 (plus shipping, one assumes). None have been listed on GunBroker in the past 90 days.
  
  Twist barrels were never known for being particularly sturdy. Even if a gunsmith says it's as safe as it ever was, I wouldn't load more than the bare minimum required to push the shot out the barrel.
