Carry Permit Legal In Unattended Vehicle

Can you legally, in Pa., leave a loaded weapon in your vehicle if you have a carry permit.

In simple terms can I leave a loaded revolver in my car console at all times?

    The link below is to the Pennsylvania Firearms Owners Association. They have listed all applicable laws for Pennsylvania.
    Evidently it is a third degree felony to get caught with a loaded gun in your car when you don't possess a concealed carry license.

    Yes, legally you can do it, but it wouldn't be very smart.

    Leaving your gun in a car glove box or console is a sure way to get it stolen.

    OTOH, I know several LEOs who will secure their firearms in their vehicles in a steel lock box bolted to the floor.

    If it is not smart to leave the firearm in the vehicle then what do you do when you are carrying it and have need to go into a U S Post Office or other area where it is prohibited?

    First of all, the widely stated ban on carrying in Post offices may or may not truly apply to those with concealed carry licenses. My understanding is that this is still an open legal question under review. See here for more discussion:

    That said, its better not to take any chances.

    I don't know the law in PA, but I do know that if you're going to leave a gun in your car, its really best policy to either keep it in the trunk (under lock and key) or barring that in a LOCKED glovebox or console.

    If you have the ability to carry the gun legally on your person, that's really preferable to leaving it in the car (where it can get stolen, and where it doesn't do you any good if you're outside the car!).

    I don't know a thing about concealed carry laws , as I live in a state that has none . I do however know a little bit about common sence and leaving a pistol in an automobile for whatever reason is a bad idea for the obvious reasons . I carry at the post office and everywhere else I go except V.A. buildings ! If confronted with a choice of leaving a gun in the car or taking it into a forbidden place , I choose the latter . After all it is concealed , who's going to know or care ?

    For about 30 bucks you can get a small lock box with a cable that goes around you seat brace. Works great for places you can't carry
