Per your description doesn't appear to have any collectors value as a military rifle, due to it's sporterization.

The way things are going nowadays with the big box stores and internet dealers selling cheap excellent quality Savages, it's not going to be worth a lot of money as a deer rifle. Unless he's willing to sell it inexpensively, I wouldn't fool with it.

The stock is probably meant for scope use, hence the high cheekpiece. If it's not D&T for a scope, that would reduce the price considerably since the 03A3 action is hard and difficult to drill. If the front and rear sight bases are still intact, the military sights could be reinstalled and are pretty good for most uses(blade front & peep rear).
    Still a $300(tops) rifle.

But, to keep it under "$300 (tops)", that means you don't want your total investment to be > $300.

Since installing the original military rear scope, or installing a scope mount, could easily cost you $200, you probably should look elsewhere if your co-worker wants > $100 for the rifle.

You didn't mention the finish. If it still has the original military finish it could be restored to 03A3 configuration by replacement of the stock and stock hardware. The barrel mounted rear sight would have to be removed but evidence of where it had been would be covered with the handguard. It would be worth more in military configuration but the stock and hardware, including the rear sight, would probably run $250. In it's present configuration I would say $200 maximum price.

You may call it apples and oranges, but I have a sporterized Enfield III on auction now starting at $100., same thing , not D&T, so I think $150 for the 03 would be about it, IMHO.

Thanks all! I think I will return it to him suggest he keep it since the value is minimal.
