carbon steel receiver stainless steel barrel

hello;

is there any issue or problems installing a stainless steel barrel into carbon steel receiver? thanks for any input.

    NOPE [;)] I have a Remington 700 blue reciever with a Douglas stainless barrel [^] Works just fine [:)]

    'dis-similar' metals in contact with one another will corrode (think steel/aluminum), steel and stainless are 'similar' metals = no problem. please note; there are no true "stainless steel" firearms, most 'stainless' firearms are made from 400 or 500 series stainless, true 'stainless steel' is 300 series (too soft)

    None whatsoever. It's done on a daily basis on thousands of rifles. The steels used for receivers, barrels and recoil lugs, if required, are interchangeable.

    The trend for higher end rifles, competition rifles and customs is to use a top quality stainless barrel. This is a result of the public wanting to get the benefits of the stainless steel barrels as opposed to those of chrome moly barrels. There is data supporting the fact that properly formulated and manufactured stainless steel barrels will have a longer accuracy life than CM barrels.

    When consideration is given to the end use of the rifle, I don't see any difference. This applies to hunting rifles which will rarely be fired enough to create the wear necessary to cause any degradation in accuracy. On the other hand most competition rifle shooters rebarrel at least once a year, some more frequently... But the fact remains that stainless steel is replacing CM steel for barrels at a consistent rate.

    Stainless steel used for barrels is not truly 'stainless' and must be cared for properly to prevent slight surface rust and marks from appearing after exposure to the elements. Stainless steel barrels can also be finished to match their CM counterparts on a rifle by using products such as Ceracoat. The rifles in my signature have stainless steel barrels and have all been Ceracoated.

    Early Remington Model 700 BDL rifles in 7mm and 300 Winchester Magnum calibers had stainless steel barrels and carbon steel actions. The barrels were "blued" somehow to match the receivers, so this combination of using stainless and carbon steel is at least 50 years old.

    My 1963 Model 70 Varmint came with a stainless barrel in a carbon steel receiver, it's still there and doing fine with no sign of corrosion or metal interaction.

    Take a look at the Cooper Firearms website. They just about exclusively use stainless barrels on CM reciever's. They make a beautiful rifle over there, and their rifles are real good shooter's too.

    There is something to be said for that Ceracoat process too. I have a couple rifles that have that finish, and not only do they look good, but they are more element resistant than stainless.
