New Colt Gold Cup

Are the new Gold Cups for sale based on the Series 70 or 80?

Is the Colt 1991 series based on the Series 70 too?

So if I were to buy a new Colt 1911 and had my choice of the new replica Series 70, the 1991 series, a new Gold Cup or another model which would be best? I guess I should assume that all new 1911s by Colt other than the new series 70 are based on the series 80.

what is it that makes the firing pin safety on the 80 less desirable?

    The 1991 are based on the 80 series, and my new gold Cup Trophy is also a series 80. I am about ready to off the Trophy, and take my NIB series 70 Gold Cup NM out of the box. It is just that much better, comparing them side by side.

    It impedes the otherwise excellent trigger pull of the seeries 70

    I think I am gonna go with the a Series 70...leaning towards blued, but tempted on the Stainless

    Hello SHILOWAR. I don't think COLT ever made a EDITSTAINLESSseries 70 GOLD CUP.

    Colt made a Series 70 Gold Cup from 1970 through about 1982, when the Series 80 Gold Cup was introduced. No Colt Government Model or any other variation was made in stainless steel until 1983. That means there were no stainless Series 70 pistols.

    They do make a series 70, but it's not a Gold Cup. I suppose you could upgrade it. I don't know how many of the parts are interchangable between the series 80 and 70 models.

    Sorry for any confusion but I was referring to deciding to get a Series 70 not a Gold Cup. I was talking about the new Series 70, plain jane Mk IV in stainless-O1070A1CS or blue-O1970A1CS.
