16 Ga. chamber lenght
When a 16 Ga shotgun chamber lenght is made longer ( from 65 mm shells to 70 mm shells ) does this procedure ALSO lenghten the chamber and /or forcing cone to take into account the evolution from roll crimp shell to star crimp ? It would seem to me that BOTH
factors need to be adjusted for.

were there ever any star crimp 2 9/16?? I've never a box marked 2 9/19 that didn't have a roll crimp 0 -
"does this procedure ALSO lenghten the chamber and /or forcing cone"........yes the 'taper' is built into the chamber reamer. there is no difference for 'rolled' or 'star' crimper shells. a 2 3/4" rolled criped shell will be longer initialy that a 'star' crimper one; after firing they will be the same (approx.) lenght. 0 -
thanks for the input. I wanted to better understand what needs to be done, before discussing with my gunsmith. Apparently, 30 or 40 yrs ago, most gunsmiths were familiar with procedure and had the appropiate reamer.Not so today 0 -

sort of a hijack but related. In the double gun journal an article with extensive testing showed no significant pressure increase when shooting a longer shell in the shorter chamber. IIRC many tests on SXS's. focused mainly on 12 ga 2 3/4 vs 2 1/2 Winter 2001 issue

There isn't much chance of having problems from over pressure from firing 2 3/4" shells in a 65mm chamber. Depending on the gun though, you can get problems from increased recoil and if it's a pump or semi auto it probably won't cycle. 0
