Winchester 56
I've been looking for a nice Winchester 56 for some time. I've seen two recently which have target type peep sights and a notch cut in the stock near the rear of the bolt. My Henshaw book shows only a standard and fancy model with checkering, but nothing about target sights, or a notched area on the stock. At least on of the guns I'm looking at appears original, but I don't want it if the stock/sight configuration is not factory. Can you help?

Hello Paul,
I believe that the Lyman No. 48 (second variation) peep sight was an option on the Model 56 and it was frequently used on its sibling Model 57. The notched cut-out in the stock would be correct for a rifle with a Lyman peep sight installed.0 -
